Seeds - The Next Big Thing

At the risk of sounding like an after school special, seeds are cool. If you want to be cool, you have to get some. Seeds are the magic morsels of gardening. I mean who would believe that a pumpkin could come from one of those seeds on the right side of this page? It's no less wondrous than Jack's bean stalk!

Stop by our Wilmington Island local and pick up a few packs. There are many edibles that can be started directly in the ground this time of year. How about some green onions, sugar snap peas, or parsley? Get thee to seed store at once!

What else should I be planting this time of year? I'm a novice gardener gearing up to plant garlic and onions in the next couple of weeks. Also, any tips for creating raised beds on the cheap?

Second question first-Raised Beds
I recommend the "composted" tree debris found at the dump on Concord Rd. Determine what you're planting in it, and then we can recommend amendments.
You can make any tub or container a raised bed as long as it has good drainage. Most people aren't just concerned about money. They want it to look cute too. (Cha-ching.) I will try and find some good photo examples and post them.
When you say planting-do you mean seeds only? Veggies, flowers?

Anything edible. ;) I've planted baby bok choy, broccoli, and lettuce seedlings straight in the ground. They've gotten a little bit of damage on the tips of the leaves from the cold weather last week, but they're not dead so I feel great.

Start your warm season seeds indoors. Tomato and peppers can be started and transplanted outside after the 15th of March.

Other warm season things like cucumbers and melons can be started. If you have to through something over the young plants (outside)so be it. I think it's better to get a jump on things.

What about blueberry bushes?

Yes-I know the difference between "through" and "throw". Oops.
